Here are some food habits to keep your family healthy and protected during the monsoon season:

1. Limit the consumption of fried foods

Fried foods are irresistible as the oil, among other things, makes the food smell so good. Constant consumption of oily and heavy foods would lead to indigestion and stomach upsets.

This is especially worse during the monsoon season because the digestion capacity of the body is low during humid weather. To counter this, avoid frequent consumption of fried foods and buying foods from road-side vendors as they are unhygienic.

2. Consume Well-cooked Food

Always elect to consume well-cooked foods during the monsoon season as this reduces the risk of infection and contamination and is also easily digested. Avoid raw food like seafood, sprouts, salads, pre-cut fruits as it may harbour germs and bacteria due to the humid atmosphere. Instead boil, steam, bake or grill the food before eating.

3. Stay Hydrated

It is very important that you drink an adequate amount of water. During the monsoon season, you have to be deliberate about this as the weather causes you to hardly feel thirsty.

In order to avoid harming yourself and to keep your body clean toxins, you must inculcate a water-drinking habis. Make sure the water is clean. If you are not sure about this, boil and then filter it before drinking. In addition to these, avoid excessive intake of carbonated drinks or beverages.

4. Opt For Soups

Soups are healty, nutritious and easy to prepare and digest. Instead of eating samosas, chaat or pakodas during your snack time, opt for soup. This is because soups come in and contain various spices that  boost the body’s immune system. With their water content, they also help keep the body hydrated and act as stress and fatigue relievers.

5. Herbal Tea

Monsoons are full of fun but there are many chances of falling sick if care is not taken. It is the time when your immunity is low and the environment is full of bacteria and virus. For almost everyone, mmonsoom and tea go hand in hand. Adding various herbs and spices like basil, ginger, peppermint, lemon balm, cloves or green tea help strengthen the immune system and heal from stomach ailments and viral infections.

6. Eat Fruits

Seasonal fruits like pomegranate, pears, peaches, plums etc. Are healty, help restore energy, rich in vitamins and minerals and easy to digest. Fruits help keep your digestive tract clean and are rich sources of antioxidants. Go for homedade fruit juices while also reducing your intake of water-filled fruits like watermelon or muskmelons in order to prevents stomach infections. All the fruits and veggies must be washed thoroughly with warm water.
